Kids Beginner Music Lessons

While music can be learnt by anyone at any age, there are distinct advantages to starting early.

Preschool and prep-aged children are in a special stage of their development. From exposure to the fundamentals of music (pitch, rhythm, movement), they are more likely to grow into seemingly "natural musicians" (of course, any "natural" is really the product of a fair amount of practice, but this is a great start!).

Using the Keyboard Games books from the research-based Music Moves for Piano method, Stuart delivers these fundamental materials in a mode that meets the curious, active, and fun-loving children where they are—not forcing them to sit down and learn "boring pieces" and potentially turning them off the instrument for life!

Most children under six aren't quite ready for the sit-down, one-on-one piano lessons you're probably familiar with. So Stuart takes a different approach with this cohort.

Keyboard Games group classes at Hotham Street are fun movement, singing, and piano-focused hours that expose and acculturate your child to core musical concepts—concepts that they will, later on, be taught formally.

Students will learn simple pieces, have at-home practice, lay the groundwork for an "ear" for music, and gain body awareness; positioning them to excel when they transition into structured piano lessons.

Most importantly, Keyboard Games lays the foundation for an enriching and life-long relationship with music as a performer, listener, dancer, aficionado, or singer—no matter how amateur!
